Letters to the Editor: Local cyclist angry at Towpath and Carriageway cycle lanes

Letters to the Editor, from Sean McGrath

Hi Newry Times,

As an avid cyclist like many others in the Newry area I would like to see NMDC do something about the state of the cycle lane on the carriageway between Newry and Warrenpoint. The cycle lane is littered with large stones, broken glass, bits of metal and even dead animals; forcing cyclists to go out onto the carriageway which is extremely dangerous. Also the towpath between Newry and Poyntzpass which is used by walkers, runners and cyclists.

The condition of the surface is getting worse by the week, which is dangerous for cyclists and could cause injury to runners and as part of it is used for the Newry City Marathon and the Maracycle could you highlight or even start an online campaign to try and get NMDC to fulfill their duties to keep these two places clean, safe and of a standard that will be of benefit to all who use them.
