Keady Youth Club visits Addiction Support Centre
St Patricks Youth Club Keady were welcome guests of Cuan Mhuire Regional Addiction Support Centre located in Newry. The young people and their mentors visited the Centre as part of their Drug and Alcohol Awareness Programme. They witnessed the ongoing work carried out at Cuan Mhuire, affectionately known as Sr Consilios. They also met some residents of the facility who are doing their best to address their addiction problems and were given an insight into many of the issues and challenges related to alcohol misuse.
Pat Mc Ginn Cuan Mhuire Outreach Coordinator said that whilst the primary purpose of Cuan Mhuire was to support individuals and families suffering from the consequences of addiction and to help them move into a life of recovery and independent living, the Charity had an important role in informing young people in particular about the potential damage and pain that alcohol and other addictions can bring if not addressed. “The young people who visit our Centre get a very real and personal insight in addiction and alcohol misuse. They hear at first hand about consequences of addiction such as homelessness, mental and physical health deterioration. It is an informative and rewarding experience for all involved” said the Outreach coordinator.
