Dog and litter bin scheme extended

Sinn Féin councillor Brendan Curran has commended the recreation department of Newry and Mourne Council for their speedy response to his request for additional dog waste and litter bins. Speaking to Newry Times he said, “I requested these bins a number of weeks ago following requests from a number of residents who were concerned at the amount of dog fouling in the area and the build up of general rubbish. There were also a number of responsible dog owners who contacted me about the lack of facilities so no doubt they will be happy with the swift outcome as well.”

Speaking about the scheme, Curran added, “This scheme was initially applicable to Chapel Street, Warrenpoint Road, O’Neill Avenue and the Rathfriland Road and I know that some of these bins have already been installed. In addition I have asked that the council extend the scheme to other areas and I have had a favourable response to this request as well.”
