Rowing Ireland in town for Olympic time trials
Newry and Mourne District Council have spoke of their delight to be once again hosting Rowing Ireland this weekend Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th. Rowing Ireland’s high performance programme will be hosting trials this weekend at Newry Sports Centre and the St Christopher’s Park end of the Albert Basin.
Speaking about the event, Mayor Charlie Casey said, “I am delighted to welcome Rowing Ireland to the Albert Basin on Saturday and I hope this return visit is as successful as the previous one. This venue and the choice by Rowing Ireland’s elite athletes to use it, again highlights the significance of this resource. It is a linear path from the Albert Basin to Victoria Locks, sheltered from adverse weather conditions and ideal therefore for all water sports”.
Rowing Ireland have also spoke of the warm welcome they receive from the local people in Newry when they host their assessments. Assessments which, according to Rowing Ireland, help them in their selection of national teams.
