Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade hosted the launch of Newry Style City week in Bellinis on Tuesday 7th February. At the launch delegates representing Newry’s retail, hospitality and service sectors were informed about the exciting plans for Newry Style City 2012. Ms Orla Jackson, Chief Executive, Newry Chamber, advised, “Newry Style City is a week long festival of activities designed to promote and profile Newry’s fashion and beauty industry on a local, regional and national stage. The phenomenal success of the inaugural Newry Style City week held in Spring 2011,  created an appetite amongst Newry retailers, service sector businesses and local citizens alike to host this fashion week as an annual festival.”

She continued, “From the 25th March – 1st April, Newry will be indulging in a highly anticipated week of fabulous events right across the city showcasing the latest trends in fashion, hair, make up and beauty for spring/summer 2012. The team behind Newry Style City hope to build on the success and experience of the inaugural event held last spring and make the 2012 fashion festival even bigger and better through facilitating more fashion themed fringe events throughout City, encourage greater engagement with the local community, attract more visitors from all over Ireland and build Newry Style City as an brand synonymous with fashion retail; ultimately driving more footfall to our local shops.”

‘Newry Style City’ week will open with the ‘Style City Show’ in Bellini’s on Sunday 25 March.  It will be profiled and promoted as the ultimate night out for anyone with a keen interest in fashion and style.  The Style City Show will bring spring/summer trends to a new level and a big audience.  Cocktails, canapés and fabulous goodie bags will ensure the night is off to a great start. The NSC team will host a new event during this year’s fashion week; ‘Speed Style’. This event will give 100 guests the opportunity to have their very own Newry style ‘Gok Wan’ experience. Each guest will receive individual fashion, hair and makeup advice from a team of industry experts. This event will be held on Wednesday 28th March in the Canal Court Hotel.

The finale event will be ‘Newry’s Most Stylish Awards, taking place on Sunday 1st April in the Bank Bar. This fun filled and glamorous night will recognise Newry’s Most Stylish Male, Female, Most Stylish in Corporate, in Retail, in Beauty, in Sport, in Hospitality and Most Stylish on the Night’. Throughout the Newry Style City week, there will be fringe events held in venues throughout the City, including The Quays, The Buttercrane, Southern Regional College, Jack Murphy Jewellers as well as online fashion workshops.

Orla Jackson added, “We would like to extend an invitation to everyone with a keen interest in fashion and beauty to get involved in this year’s Newry Style City week.  We would like to invite individuals as well as local retailers, service sector and hospitality providers to participate in someway with the festival; there are plenty of opportunities to get involved, whether its through showing their fashion on the catwalk Style show, hosting fringe events in their premises, entering into the Most Stylish Awards or sponsoring key events.”
