St Bronagh’s Fight Night a huge success

St Bronagh’s ABC of Rostrevor held their annual fight night in the Balmoral, Warrenpoint at the weekend and it turned out to be a great night of boxing. Head coach Gavin Dougan organised a great fight card of boxing with fifteen thrilling contests. Two times Ulster Champion Shane McGarry produced a stand out performance, winning 8-4 against Brian Stokes of St Seachnalls.

Shane was rewarded with the Padraig Greer shield for St. Bronagh’s boxer of the year. The much improved nine county finalist Matthew Murnion also performed well on the night, defeating Patrick Serridge of St Pats. Matthew was also rewarded for his endeavors throughout the season with the most improved St Bronagh’s boxer award.

Another great fight on the night went to Paddy Falloon of Camlough ABC who defeated current Ulster and All Ireland Intermediate Finalist Gary McKenna of Smithboro on a scoreline 8-7. With 5 victories out of 7 for the St. Bronagh’s team it was a good work out, with the mid-ulster and All Ireland Championships fast approaching.

Aaron Podesta (St Brigids) lost 6 – 2 against Pat Ward (St Malachy’s)

James Cunningham (St Bronagh’s) won 7 – 6 against Barry McAteer (Camlough)

Stephen McKenna (Smithboro) won 6 – 2 against Pat Stokes (St Seachnalls)

Dean McCabe (Bosco) lost 7 – 4 against Gerard Stokes (St Seachnalls)

Conor Wallace (Sacred Heart) won 8 – 4 against Martin Collins (K&K)

Brendan Magee (St Bronagh’s) won 11 – 4 against John Stokes (St Seachnalls)

Sean Flynn (Smithboro) lost 7 – 4 against Stephen Sweeney (All Blacks)

Paddy Falloon (Camlough) won 8 – 7 against Gary McKenna (Smithboro)

Micheal McGarry (St Bronagh’s) lost 4 – 1 against Davy Doran (Camlough)
