Fire services tackle blaze in Kilkeel

Local fire and rescue services have been called in from around Newry & Mourne and beyond tonight to deal with a blaze in Kilkeel. Six fire fighting appliances as well as an aerial appliance have been called in from Warrenpoint and Newry, as well as Portadown and Lisburn.

It is reported that the blaze was at a disused factory in the Harbour Road area of Kilkeel. The fire was reported to the emergency services at around 7pm on Wednesday. Firefighters arrived to find the building heavily smoke logged.

The area has been closed off to traffic. Officers have stated that the cause of the fire “remains undetermined”. Further investigations are being carried out by the PSNI and the NI Fire and Rescue Service.
