Dan’s the Man, but where will he start for the Mournemen?

James McCartan says Dan Gordon could continue as Down full back this year, despite his man of the match performance at wing forward against Armagh on Sunday.

Better known as a midfielder or a full forward, Gordon was switched to full back in 2010 when Down reached the All-Ireland final, and has been first-choice full back ever since.

“That’s a question I don’t know the answer to,” the Down manager said when asked where the Loughinisland man will be deployed this year.

He continued, “Dan did very well today and caught a lot of ball. But we’re not overloaded with corner backs and a full back. We had two backs on a yellow card and we had no-one in the squad to come on.”

He added, “So it might be just a game-to-game thing. Dan spent the last 10 minutes at full back anyway – he saw there was danger and he didn’t need us to switch it, he read it and tidied up a few balls for us.”
