Dromintee woman appointed CEO of Sunderland F.C
A South Armagh woman has been appointed CEO for Sunderland Football Club. Margaret Byrne, a 31 year old solicitor who hails from Dromintee, has become one of the youngest chief executives of a Premier League football club and the only woman to hold such a post at the highest level in professional football.
She has been legal director and secretary at the Stadium of Light since 2007, with Sunderland Chairman Niall Quinn describing Margaret as a “true driving force” over the last four years who would “continue her fantastic work as the club continues to grow.” The Chairman, a former Republic of Ireland international, added, “The fact that the club has gone from strength to strength, on and off the pitch in that period, is no coincidence. She has enormous passion for our football club and as its CEO, she will continue with the fantastic work that has gone before and will play a key role as the club continues to grow.”
