It was recently announced that Jackie Connolly will showcase his exhibition of Maritime Memories at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre in the Carroll Gallery. From a very early age Jackie Connolly was attracted to drawing and painting. Later in his more adventurous life, Jackie got the opportunity to sail in the “Golden Age of Shipping”, when he joined the Merchant Navy in order to see the world before settling down. In developing his skills he has taken inspiration from the Great Masters and has tended towards a traditional technique to capture the mood and accuracy of the sea and waterscapes – their beauty and colour – that he tries to recreate on canvas.  The infinite variety of water scenes, the endless complexity of light on water, is something that Jackie believes that gives most people great pleasure and is especially addictive to aspiring artists like himself!  In this exhibition Jackie expresses the pleasures and his love of the sea through his many sketches and paintings and presents them in one unique exhibition.

Jackie has also staged many other exhibitions, featuring both landscapes and portraits in a variety of mediums in many different venues over the years.  He has also won some applause for my efforts, such as The Conor Award at the RUA Exhibition, The RUA prize at the RUAA Exhibition, The RUA at The RUA Exhibition, The Pro Loco prize at Lisburn and The Maneely prize at Pastel Society of Ireland Exhibition.  However, nothing gives him greater pleasure than bringing this Maritime themed exhibition to the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, revealing, as it does, his not-so-secret-past.

Whether you live in the area or are just passing through you are invited to drop in and view this exhibition at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre from 2nd December – 20th December 2011 9am – 5.00pm. For further information on this exhibition contact The Sean Hollywood Arts Centre on 028 30313180.
